1.
Vail Mountain opened on December 15, 1962, boasting 1 gondola, 2 chair
lifts, 8 ski instructors and a $5 lift ticket. The 2006-2007 season
marks the 44th Anniversary for North America's most popular ski
and snowboard resort.
2. Since 1962, Vail has become the largest single mountain ski resort
in North America, offering guests 34 total ski lifts, 14 of which are
high-speed. Guests may experience the mountain in several distinct settings-the
Front Side, the Back Bowls, the Game Creek and China Bowls, and the
Blue Sky Basin.
3. Vail Mountain is designed for skiers and snowboarders of all skill
levels. Of 193 total trails, 18% are beginner friendly, 29% are geared
towards intermediate skiers, and 53% are designated as advanced/expert
trails.
4. Vail ski resort has been designated the #1 ski resort by the readers
of SKI Magazine 13 times since 1988.
5. With a vertical rise of 3,450 feet, the altitude at Vail's summit
is 11, 570 feet.
6. Vail Village is modeled after a traditional Bavarian Village. With
this European feel, the majority of the Village is designed to accommodate
pedestrians, not cars.
7. As a testament to Vail's continuing evolution, the town is currently
undergoing a Billion Dollar Renewal, which is part of Vail's New
Dawn, a project that will add new shops, activities, and a variety of
luxurious new lodging spaces to Vail Village and LionsHead.
8. Ever wonder what makes Vail customer service so superior? Already
in its 12th year, the employee customer service program Turn It Up!
is the longest running program of its kind in the United States.
9. As a service to its visitors, the Vail Transportation Center offers
Free Parking after 3 pm. in the winter. Go ahead and enjoy après-ski
fun!
