The cowboys had such a great time that the Downhill has become the most popular events of the season with around 100 of the best professional rodeo cowboys competing in the most unique ski rodeo in the country. Sponsored by Bud Light, the Cowboy Downhill is always scheduled to coincide with the National Western Stock Show in Denver. 98th Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival February 2, 2011 The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, one of the largest and oldest winter sports clubs in the U.S., hosts the 98th Annual Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival, the oldest continuing Winter Carnival west of the Mississippi. The carnival features racing, ski jumping, a parade featuring Steamboat’s skiing high school band (the only one in the United States), the famous ski jöring events down Lincoln Avenue, and the spectacular night show featuring the legendary Lighted Man and stunning fireworks display. 10th Mavericks Superpipe Challenge March 2011 Skiers and riders will face the challenge of one of the premier superpipes in North America when they compete for cash and merchandise during the 10th Annual Mavericks Superpipe Challenge this March at Steamboat. The event features competitions for both men and women skiers and snowboarders. St. Patrick’s Day Torchlight Parades & Fireworks Display presented by Sprint March 17, 2011 A great family event, the Steamboat Ski & Snowboard School treats tourists and locals to spectacular on-snow parade down the mountain, lit only by torches. In conjunction with the torchlight parades, a fireworks display will illuminate the sky. This event is free and open to the public; the best viewing is in Gondola Square. The parade begins at 8 p.m. Bud Light Rocks The ‘Boat Free Concert Series March/April 2011 The Steamboat Ski Area will again be rockin’ this spring as the Bud Light Rocks the ‘Boat Free Music Series returns for the 12th season offering a great mixture of various musical genre. The Rocks the ‘Boat series has brought together everything from bluegrass and New Orleans-style rhythm and blues to a traditional Irish sound. Past free concerts have included Big Head Todd & the Monsters, Gin Blossoms, North Mississippi All Stars, The Subdudes, Tony Furtado, Sam Bush Band, Derek Trucks Band, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and The Samples.
